The purpose of this course is to provide you with the knowledge , skills , and understanding necessary to be a junior barber .
It is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and has a variety of practical and theoretical units for you to achieve . You will be expected to gather evidence of both the practical skills and underpinning knowledge for each unit you study and create a portfolio of evidence .
You will be required to work in paired activity and bring models in for assessment purposes .

The hairdressing industry is a very inspirational sector and this qualification will provide you with the right balance of knowledge and skills needed to become a trainee hairdresser .
If you are creative , artistic and enjoy meeting new people then this is the course for you .
You will be required to work in paired activity and to bring in models for assessment purposes .
Entry Requirements
You must have manual dexterity , a pleasant manner and a keen interest in and knowledge of the hairdressing industry
Previous work experience would be beneficial and relevant to your application
You must have successfully completed VTCT Level 1 Diploma in hairdressing or equivelant

SVQ : Barbering

This qualification has been specifically designed to build on existing knowledge and understanding of barbering and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a senior barber . Learners will work in , and have their barbering skills assessed in a ‘ real ’ commercial barber shop / salon .
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as an advanced barber including : health and safety ; client consultation ; creative hair cutting , designing and creating facial hair shapes , selling products and services to clients .
Entry Requirements
You must have SVQ Level 2 in barbering or equivalent
You must have ESOL at National 5 , if applicable
You must be currently working in salon / barbershop
Industry experience (+ 5 years ) may be considered
