erá la tercera ocasión que el elenco
paraguayo diga presente en la Copa
Mundial Sub-17 de la FIFA, y en Chile, buscará, por primera vez, ser protagonista. En
sus únicas dos presencias solo logró pasar
la fase de grupos en Nueva Zelanda 1999,
donde fue eliminado por Brasil en cuartos
de final. Dos años después, en Trinidad y
Tobago, se fue tempranamente de regreso
a su país.
En el Torneo Sudamericano Sub-17 clasificatorio, donde fue el anfitrión, cumplió con
una muy buena primera parte, ganando su
grupo. En el hexagonal final, sin embargo,
debió luchar y solo definió su paso al Mundial en la última fecha, obteniendo el ansiado cuarto cupo, tras vencer a Uruguay.
De la mano de Carlos Jara Saguier, quien
llevó a Paraguay a la final de los Juegos
Olímpicos del 2004, el equipo confía en
mostrar su calidad y avanzar hasta instancias finales.
I
t will be the third time that the Paraguayan
squad say present in the FIFA U-17 World
Cup, and in Chile, they will seek for the first
time, be a leading team. In their only two appearances they just got through the group
stage in New Zealand 1999, where they
were eliminated by Brazil in the quarterfinals.
Two years later, in Trinidad and Tobago they
left early to their country.
In the South American U-17 qualifying Tournament, where they were host, they accomplished a very good first part, winning their
group. In the final hexagonal, however, they
had to struggle and only defined its way to
the World Cup on the final date, winning
the long awaited fourth spot, after beating
Uruguay.
By the hand of Carlos Jara Saguier, who led
Paraguay to the finals at the Olympic games
of 2004, the team trust to show their quality
and advance to the final stages.
