n 1952, la llamada “Cancha de La Vega”
se transformó en lo que luego se conoció como estadio La Portada, reducto que se
mantuvo sin mayores cambios hasta iniciada
la segunda década del siglo XXI.
En 2012, se anunció la reconstrucción de
este recinto deportivo para, gracias a la
inversión de 14 mil millones de pesos, dejar a La Serena con un coliseo de lujo, con
pista atlética y una capacidad para más
de 18 mil espectadores.
Durante la recientemente realizada Copa
América, albergó tres compromisos: Argentina – Paraguay, Argentina – Uruguay
y Uruguay – Paraguay, respondiendo a la
altura de un certamen de esta naturaleza, algo que buscará repetir durante la
Copa Mundial Sub-17 de la FIFA, en la
que recibirá cuatro partidos, incluido una
semifinal.
I
n 1952, the so called ¨field of La Vega¨

until the beginning of the second decade of
the XXI century.
