Step 4 Scribe Cut the Laminate Top to the Wall Condition

Step 4 Scribe Cut the Laminate Top to the Wall Condition

4.1 Remove the top ( s ) from its position on the cabinet and transfer it to sawhorses or another surface that will support the top while it is being cut .
4.2 Cut along the splash of the top at the scribe line with a circular saw held at a slight angle .
This will keep the saw base from marring the top ’ s finished surface and minimize the top ’ s thickness that will contact the wall .
Using a circular saw for this cut is very effecient . However , laminate material may chip slightly when cut in this way . In order to prevent a chip from protruding past the scribe line , cut only to within a 1 / 16 ” of the line . The balance can be quickly sanded in without the risk of chipping .
Field Tip :
When cutting a top to a scribed line on the backsplash , the angled cut helps the top fit to the wall more easily because it reduces the thickness of the surface that will contact the wall making it less susceptible to bumps and imperfections .
Be sure to reduce and stop the angling to the saw cut before cutting past an end that will be visible .
