8.3 Center the Sink Opening Cutout
side-to-side over the center line of the
sink cabinet.
Use the template provided by the sink
manufacturer or specific cutout dimen-
sions supplied in the plans.
Make sure the cutout is parallel to the
front of the countertop and set back far
enough so the front of the cutout will be
farther back than the backside of the
sink cabinet front by 1/4”.
8.4
Cut the sink opening
straight sides first.
Use a circular saw with a sharp
blade to plunge into the cut.
Enter the material slowly to mini-
mize the chance of blowout to the
surface.
8.5 Place screws
diagonally into the kerf
centered in each side
cutout before proceed-
ing with th e rounded
corners. This will keep
the cutout section from
tearing away as the cor-
ner cuts are completed.
121
Cut the rounded corners
of the sink cutout with a
jig saw.
Be ready for surprises
when the cutout is com-
pleted. The diagonal
screws should keep the
sink cutout piece from
falling, but it still may
shift or swing.
