2.3
Do not allow a seam in
the Rough Top material to fall
within a cabinet that is wider
than 18”. The plywood needs
to be supported at its ends by
vertical cabinet sides or panels
in order to withstand a lifetime of
use.
It is OK to place a seam within
a cabinet that is 18” wide or
smaller, as long as the seam
is reinforced with a plywood
gusset using glue and 1-1/4”
screws.
2.4 Confi rm all Rough Top is fastened
completely and all of the attachment screws
are at least fl ush with the top of the material.
Ensure that no splinters in the plywood ex-
tend more than 1/16” above the surface.
2.5
If you have a large piece of Rough Top to cut for
an island, it can be helpful to fasten it in place fi rst and
then cut it to size.
Field Tips:
It is possible that Rough Top could get wet at some point during the life of the kitchen,
especially in the spans over the dishwasher and around the sink.
Water or even humidity can make plywood swell and buckle, which can lead to failure of the
countertop material.
For this reason it is important that the Rough Top is secured properly with screws and that
the seams are well laid out, supported and reinforced as needed.
