Schoolboard spotlight:
Mike DeBruyn
By Arthur McCall ‘06
Flash Staff Reporter
Mike DeBruyn has been a
member on the Fraser
School board for about 2 ½
years. He first joined the
board in January 2003.
DeBruyn enjoys being a part
of a professional, overachieving school district.
“Fraser is a small community, and so is our district, but
that doesn’t stop us from
doing things well”, said
DeBruyn.
In his spare time DeBruyn
likes to read and bike. His
favorite movies are This is
Spinal Tap and Macbeth.
DeBruyn has cats, fish,
frogs, and gerbils as pets
and is a big soup fan. His favorite music is classic and 80s
rock, but he can enjoy any music if it sounds good.

The margin of victory for
DeBruyn in his election
was 5 to 3. He joined the
board because he wanted
to be a part of Fraser
Schools.
“Fraser Public Schools is
in great shape. We have a
professional and (in terms
of age and background)
diverse teaching corps; we
have talented administrators; and now we have
about sixty million dollars
with which to make badly
needed repairs and equipment purchases. MEAPwise, we stack up very
well with the rest of the
schools in Macomb County,”
said DeBruyn.
DeBruyn said he would run
for the board again.

Editorial Policy
The editorial board is the decision-making
group for the newspaper staff. It includes the
editor-in-chief, assistant editors, and all other
writers, web editors, and photographers. The
board is in charge of making the decisions
on what will go into the newspaper. If a
controversial issue arises, it is the common
assumption that there will be nothing published in the newspaper that is libelous, obscene, copyrighted, disrupting, or advocating illegal activities.
