Discover liquid Welsh Gold
RESSURECTING the lost
art of distilling whisky in the
foothills of the Brecon Bea-
cons National Park in South
Wales, a group of Welsh dis-
tillers are producing whisky
said to be as pure and pre-
cious as Welsh gold.
And this precious liquid
gold is shown for the first time at
ProWine Asia by Penderyn Distillery.
Dr David Faraday, a descendant of the
Victorian scientist Dr Michael Faraday,
using a single copper pot created a fla-
vourful spirit of “extraordinary strength
and purity” for Penderyn, and so the
legend grows.
On its first Asia-wide launch is
Penderyn’s Gold Range of Single Malt
Welsh Whiskies, including its
Peated 46% which won a Gold
medal at the Spirits Business Asian
Masters, earlier this year. The
other whiskies in the range which
also won some awards include:
n Madeira 46% — 2017 Spirits
Business World Whisky Masters
— Gold
n Portwood 46% — 2016 World Whisky
Masters ‘Europe Single Malt Premium’ —
Gold
n Sherrywood 46% — 2017 Spirits Busi-
ness World Whisky Masters — Gold & 2017
ISW International Spirits Awards — Gold
Penderyn also won a Spirits Business
Grand Master award in 2017.

Croatia wines debut
at ProWine Asia 2018
VISITORS to ProWine Asia can experience a
wide range of wines, spirits and even vinegar
products from Croatia, some from the coast
of Dalmatia.
Josko Tijardovic, commercial director for
Dalmacijavino brand of top quality wines,
spirits and soft drinks, says that the company’s
wines and spirits are presently exported to
China, but they continue to explore other
Asian markets such as Singapore, Malaysia
and South Korea.
During the show, Dalmacijavino is offer-
ing the Merlot Barrique, from the Dalmatian
coast. Using cultivated French grape variety
to make the top-quality merlot of a deep red
colour, this merlot then matures in barrique
barrels — acquiring a berry aroma.
The Plavina red wine can also be found
at booth 10B3-01. Plavina is made from the
indigenous red grape variety in the wine-
growing areas of Dalmatia. This light and
smooth wine is characterised by a bright ruby
red colour and a pleasant varietal scent and
taste, which makes it suitable for everyday
consumption. It is served at room tempera-
ture and provides a true Dalmatian pleasure
in combination with spicy cheeses, dark meat
dishes or oily fish.
Dalmacijavino’s herbal liqueur, on the
other hand, is made from aromatic plants
collected and then macerated in high-quality

alcohol to obtain a characteristic and rec-
ognisable taste. This is how the “healing”
liqueur Pelin is made. It is traditionally
recommended for a better appetite because
its slight bitter taste with mild notes of citrus
fruits enhances one’s appetite.
With these and more, the Croatia team is
inviting ProWine Asia visitors to visit their
booth and enjoy the tastes of Dalmatia.
