IF you want to listen to a tale of passion and tradition set in the enchanting hills of Italy’ s Marche region, then head for booth 10D4-03 and let Fion Leung, export manager for Ciù Ciù’ s fine collection of Italian wines, regale you with the winery’ s inspiring history.
Leung reveals her tale, in between offering you sips of Ciù Ciù’ s best-selling wines such as the Merlettaie Offida Docg, made from the Pecorino, a noble Italian grape variety that’ s austere and strong— surviving for decades on the bare and rocky mountain slopes of the Piceno Apennines.
Rediscovered today due to the efforts of a handful of winemakers, this rare and precious variety is, over the years, capable of emanating intense personality to elicit ethereal and persistent sensations. Its personality and strength are exalted by being fermented in prized woods.
Another wine to enjoy with Ciù Ciù’ s history, is the Gotico Piceno Dop Superiore from the Montepulciano and Sangiovese grape varieties located on the range of hills that descends from Ascoli Piceno towards the Adriatic Sea. This wine has an intense ruby red colour, with purple reflections as soon as it matures and ages. Of high quality, fruity and flowery, elegantly ethereal when matured, this wine is full flavoured and warm, with considerable body and soft persistence on the palate.
Leung says Ciù Ciù wines are the authentic expression of the company’ s commitment and tradition, the result of research and quality in both the vineyard and in the cellar, but also of a natural wine-growing ecosystem of quality with a“ terroir”( microclimate, soil and subsoil) that is unique and irreplaceable.
And while select markets in China, Hong Kong and Japan are already familiar with Ciù Ciù wines, Leung says it is time that the rest of Asia, particularly South-east Asia, learns more about this Italian gem, thus its presence at Pro Wine Asia.
Ciù Ciù wines are the authentic expression of the company’ s commitment and tradition, the result of research and quality in both the vineyard and in the cellar, says export manager Fion Leung.

The Brewlander pouring out emotions

Stefan Lackner, the company’ s designated don tequila, shows a massive bottle of Padre Premium Tequila.
CREATED and distilled in Mexico but owned by an Austrian company, Padre Super Premium Tequila wants to convert more followers in Asia by making its presence felt at ProWine Asia.
Stefan Lackner, the company’ s designated don tequila, tells the Show Daily that its tequila line such as the Padre Azul, Tequila Blanco and Padre Azul Tequila Resposado are 100 % produced in Mexico— as all good tequilas should be.
Its Padre Azul Blanco, for instance, is a clear, transparent tequila. Bottled straight after distillation, it has a very soft and mild flavour. Another product, the Padre Azul Añejo, is a mature tequila stored in oak barrels for at least 18 months and it is full-bodied, with a particularly soft flavour.
The company not only pays attention to its tequilas’ creation but to other details as well. The Padre Azul bottles also, are individually hand-crafted, and its 270g silver skull stopper has a story— it’ s a homage to Día de los Muertos, and even the binding on the back of the leather jacket, which is borrowed from the“ El Santo” mask of the famous Mexican wrestler.
To experience the Padre’ s influence, head to booth 10D2-01.
WHEN it comes to beers, emotions run high at the Singapore-based Brewlander. To understand the depth of the company’ s feelings for its brewed creations, Charlie Phua, the beer dude at booth 10J3-03 talks visitors into a gamut of emotions as he pours the company’ s hearts out for them to sample.
He starts off by offering Hope, a beautiful summer ale with a smooth malt presence, where aromatic southern hemisphere hops are added in good measure. The crisp dry lager-like finish makes Hope the perfect thirst-quencher on a hot day, the beer dude says.
After Hope, he splashes a dash of Pride, said to be a heavenly marriage of lime zest and orange marmalade with notes of soft spices. This citrusy brew has a silky body and finishes off very dry with a mild bite— making Pride a refreshing beer for any occasion, the Brewlander boasts.
And after a draft of Pride, Phua decides to spread some Love, brewed this time with bucket loads of New World hops and fermented with wild saccharomyces strain. The Brewlander’ s Love went for a simple malt bill instead of the crystal heavy grist to allow the hops and the yeast-driven flavours to shine.
The Brewlander also offers visitors some Respect, another memorable emotion in its cache, and earned it by careful brewing to highlight its roasted coffee flavour. Phua wanted to offer Peace as well, but sadly, they ran out of it, save for the last bottle on display.
The Brewlander started out as a gypsy brewer, by using facilities in different places for its brewing. Initially brewing in Cambodia, the Brewlander is planning to open its own brewing place in Singapore soon. Aside from supplying to select restaurants and bars in Singapore, the company is currently exporting to Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
Want to get emotional over your beer? Go to Brewlander and ask the beer dude to pour you some Love or Respect.
