Of course, September still gives us permission to play.
This is the month to experiment with proportion and texture: a masculine jacket over something feminine, sequins with a simple white shirt, suede against silk, an oversized knit with a narrow skirt. It’s also the moment when richer colors begin creeping back into our wardrobes—chocolate, burgundy, camel, deep red and, always for me, black.
But the best September style isn’t about following every trend that comes down a runway. It’s about noticing what makes you want to get dressed.
There’s a particular confidence that comes from rediscovering your own style instead of chasing someone else’s. Maybe this season that means wearing fewer things, but better things. Maybe it means tailoring something you already own. Maybe it’s finally wearing the dramatic piece you’ve been saving for the “right” occasion.
Wear it.
Because perhaps that is September’s best fashion lesson: you don’t necessarily need a new wardrobe to become a new version of yourself.
Sometimes you just need to open the closet again.
