There are 5 common patterns - Do any of these patterns sound familiar?
1.The Perfectionist - focus on being perfect (an illusion) vs the hard work you put in to complete the task to the best of your ability. The perfectionist tends to avoid trying new things.
2.The Genius - focus on things coming easy so when something doesn’t come easy you feel like a failure, ashamed, and embarrassed. The genius tends to give up easy.
3.The Soloist - focus on doing everything by yourself. Asking for help means you are incompetent, inadequate or a failure. The soloist tends to not ask for help.
4.The Expert - focus on knowing everything about a topic and if you don’t have the answer you feel like a fraud or failure. The expert tends to set themselves up for failure.
5.The Superhero - focus on being everything to everyone, your success and competence is only as valuable as you are to others. The superhero tends to overextend themselves.
The Imposter Phenomena is a limiting belief that causes cognitive dissonance. The feeling of being an imposter comes from the conflict between how you perceive yourself versus the way others’ perceive you. The dissonance comes when you do not believe you are “as good as” how another person perceives you. The core limiting belief is that you are “not good enough.”
