Asking for Help Is a Wellness Practice

H
as anyone
ever told you
"you've saved
their marriage?"
More than one client has asked me that.
The first time, I laughed. Then I started hearing versions of it again.
Of course, I'm not a marriage counselor. What these clients were describing was something much simpler. They were exhausted.
Both partners were working. They were managing children, schedules, a home, appointments, meals, errands, pets, aging parents and dozens of little responsibilities that somehow needed to get done.
Neither person was doing anything wrong. They were both simply stretched too thin.
And when we're already operating at capacity, even small things can become big things.
Did you call the repair person? Who's picking up the prescription? We're out of dog food. Who's going to be home for the service appointment?
Sometimes removing a few of those pressure points creates enough breathing room for people to enjoy their lives and each other again.
