NPK: It’s been 25 years since you wrote “Sex And The City.” What’s your take on aging and entering your fifties and sixties?
CB: It's something that I explore in my show, “True Tales of Sex, Success and Sex And The City.”
The show is really the origin story of “Sex And The City.” It's also intertwined with bits of
my life story, how I came to New York, how I created “Sex And The City,” how hard I worked to get there, why I invented Carrie Bradshaw, and what happened to me afterwards.
Along the way, I answer questions about the show like was there a real Mr. Big? And did I really have three friends like the ones on the TV show? We also play a game called ‘Real or Not Real’ because there are a lot of things that happened in the show that happened in my real life.
The show addresses women in their fifties, dating, and the new situations that come up. It pretty much covers everything from what I call Middle Aged Madness, which is something that hits women in their fifties. It covers the realities of changes in status that most of us have to make in our fifties. We kind of have to reinvent ourselves. Children leave the nest, there's divorce, people often change their jobs, and this stage in life is really a time of reinventing yourself. A lot of women start dating again, and I cover the different new types of dating scenarios from internet dating to some of the different types of men that one comes across.
