3. Pho - Vietnam

Vietnam's iconic noodle soup originated in the early 20th century in Northern Vietnam near Hanoi. Its creation is closely linked to French colonialism, which introduced beef, a previously scarce commodity in Vietnam. The dish is thought to be a fusion of local Vietnamese culinary practices and French influences, possibly inspired by the French dish "pot-au-feu." Initially a street food, Pho consisted of a simple, clear broth with rice noodles and thinly sliced beef, embodying the flavors and spices of the region. As Pho spread to Southern Vietnam, it evolved to include a wider array of herbs, sweeteners, and garnishes, reflecting the region's diverse palate.
