How did you discover this dish?

I’d heard of plantains being a popular dish in various areas of Latin America and the Caribbean, but never gave them much thought until I was on a family vacation in Puerto Rico in the summer of 2018. The first restaurant we stumbled into after a long day of travel, called Deaverdura suggested a tasting menu with various meats, rice and side dishes. This was my first real Tostone and I was hooked immediately!

I’ve been known to travel an hour away from my home in Dayton, Ohio to Cincinnati to a quaint Venezuelan eatery called MAIZE OTR, owned by Angel Batista, just to have this dish.
