Describe the lessons you have learned from being in front of the camera that have carried over into your life behind the scenes.
Being in front of the camera has taught me the power of authenticity—in other words, keeping it real. There’s no script for real life, and the more I showed up as myself on camera, the more at peace I felt off-screen. THIS WAS ESPECIALLY TRUE DURING MY DECADE-LONG STINT AS CO-HOST OF WINDY CITY LIVE. It taught me to own my voice, trust my instincts, and understand that vulnerability is strength—not a weakness. It’s a lesson I’m now teaching my daughter, who is starting her own career in TV as a reporter in Fort Myers, FL.
