There is power in showing up authentically; whether that’s in a structured blazer that makes you feel like a boardroom boss, or in a flowy dress that channels your creative spirit. When you dress in a way that honors who you are (not who society expects you to be), your entire energy shifts. Your posture straightens. You walk into a room differently. And that feeling is contagious.

Fashion is often dismissed as superficial, but I see it as deeply emotional, artistic and personal. How many of us have put on a certain outfit and felt instantly lighter, braver, or more at home in our own skin? That’s no coincidence. Studies have shown that what we wear can influence our mood, self-perception, and performance. So why not use that to our advantage?

If you’re on a journey to refine your personal style, here are a few empowering touch points to keep in mind:

1. Dress for who you are now.

Too often we hold onto clothes from past versions of ourselves; whether that’s pre-pandemic, pre-career change, or pre-motherhood. Give yourself permission to evolve. Style should reflect who you are today and support the woman you are becoming.

2. Listen to your instincts.

Do certain colors make you feel alive? Are there textures you’re drawn to? Forget what’s “in season” and start noticing what genuinely excites you. Your gut is often your best stylist.

3. Let go of the “rules.”

Yes, there are classic guidelines about proportions and color theory but don’t let those restrict you. Some of the most striking style moments come from unexpected pairings. Empowerment often begins when you stop asking for permission.

4. Invest in yourself.

Whether that’s hiring a stylist, buying that one perfect jacket, or simply carving out time each season to reassess your wardrobe, consider your style an act of self-care. You deserve to feel good every single day, not just on special occasions.

In my years as a stylist, I’ve come to believe that fashion isn’t about impressing others, it’s about expressing yourself. And when that expression is honest and joyful, the empowerment is undeniable. Style is a tool, and when used intentionally, it becomes armor, celebration, and self-affirmation all in one.

Heading into summer, remember that what you wear is part of your story. I hope you choose to wear it boldly!

Speaking of boldly being your authentic self through fashion, I had the honor of being photographed in some of my favorite looks by the amazingly talented FLM Director of Photography, James Gustin, recently.
