SELF-CARE
8 Tips You Need to Know
BY SKYLAR ZERMAN
I
t is important to take
care of yourself,
whether that is in a
physical, mental, or spiritual way. Take a look
at this list to help give
yourself the essential
care you deserve!
1. Treat Yourself - Buy
flowers for yourself,
paint your nails, order
food from your favorite
restaurant, do some retail
therapy, visit a museum, take a bubble bath, have a glass of wine, eat dessert, or get a facial. Whatever it is that makes you feel like a queen, do it!
2. Stretch Your Body - Feeling sluggish and rundown? Exercise not only makes you physically healthy, but it also releases endorphins that will improve your mood and reduce stress. Stretching is also very important for aging, as our joints and muscles weaken, and our range of movement deteriorates with age.
Stretching keeps your muscles
“young” and flexible.
3. Focus on the Positives - Make a list of your “wins” so that you can celebrate the good things in life and come back to review them whenever you need a pick-me-up. It is important to remember the positives we experience every day, especially on a day when you feel everything is going wrong for you.
4. Practice Mindfulness - Mindfulness is the practice of
being present in the
moment or being highly
aware of what you are
sensing and feeling. You
can practice
mindfulness through
guided meditation, deep
breathing, yoga, or just
taking a moment to listen to your own thoughts and feelings
without paying attention to anything else going on around you.
5. Start a New Hobby - Teach yourself a new instrument, learn how to paint, try boxing, take singing lessons, join a Zumba class, go to an acting or improv class, learn how to take better pictures, learn origami, take care of a houseplant, learn calligraphy, solve a puzzle, or start running. These are just a few of the many different hobbies you should start to keep yourself entertained and help you find a new passion in life.
