Every night you hand off the NBC News national broadcast to your dad, what have been the 3 best pieces of advice that he’s provided to help you succeed in the industry?
I said this before, but my father is my number one source for advice when it comes to journalism. There have been plenty of times where I’ve needed to call him up to ask for his help to navigate a situation. A few pieces of advice he has given me:
1. You may be an anchor on
the desk, but you are
always a reporter first.
2. Don’t forget about the
person on the other
side of the camera.
Treat them with
respect. What do
they need to
know? Why does
this matter to
them?
3. Stay above
the negativity.
Don’t let them
see you sweat.
And never let
them grind you
down.
