3. Find the good. Look for qualities about you that you do love and would never want to part with. Maybe it’s your uncanny ability to listen to others, or your loyalty or your perseverance when it comes to problem solving. Give yourself credit for the things that come easily for you and acknowledge what you are proud of. In our fast paced society it is so easy to get caught up in what we need to work on and we often forget to give ourselves credit or even worse, take for granted, these beloved qualities.

4. Embrace your uniqueness. Each of us are inherently unique. There is no one person on this earth exactly like you, so the world needs you to be you! No one else has the exact same combination of skills, traits, qualities or features. Isn’t that what keeps life interesting?

5. Get help for “old programming.” If you are struggling to change what seems to be a lot of critical self talk, you are not alone. Many of our thoughts, actions and feelings are followed, without question, based on early conditioning and this can be hard to correct on your own. Pay attention to what you are “feeding” yourself. In this case, I am not talking about what you put into your mouth, but what you put into your mind. Input positive messages such as reading uplifting passages or creating a supportive mantra and reciting it regularly! Surround yourself with people who are supportive and encouraging.

Once you have assessed where you are on the path to loving yourself, try to be compassionate about this journey. Making a commitment to deepen your love for who you are, and what you contribute to others and the world, can be challenging. If you find that these steps are a struggle, a good therapist is always an effective resource to help guide you to your self love. When you have mastered these 5 steps and regularly put them into practice, you can be sure you will always possess timeless style. You will have that je ne sais quoi!
