Quality Matters More Than Quantity
When studying wine, I learned how critical the grape is to the quality of wine. Not every grape earns its place in a bottle of wine. Some grapes are bruised. Some are overripe and others are underripe. All these conditions affect the character of the wine being produced.
Winemakers understand that exceptional wine is not created by using the greatest number of grapes, but by carefully selecting the right ones. Quality requires discernment. It often means being willing to set aside what is merely adequate in pursuit of something truly excellent.
Perhaps there is a lesson for us in that process. In a world that often encourages us to do more, have more, and say yes to everything, we can forget that abundance does not always equal fulfillment. A life built with intention often proves richer than one filled simply for the sake of being full.
Like a great bottle of wine, the beauty of life is not found in quantity, but in quality. Sometimes, less truly is more. I am reminded of a verse from the Bible that says:
“Better is one handful with tranquility then two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.” Ecclesiastes 4:6
This leads me to the next lesson: creating balance. Both the vineyard and our lives require thoughtful care and proper nourishment to flourish. Too much or too little of anything can hinder growth.
