Good Things Take Time

If anything demands time, it's the vineyard. Did you know it takes a minimum of three years for a vine to produce its first grapes? Grapes need time to mature under the sun, absorbing nutrients and developing their full flavor. The process cannot be rushed if the wine is to achieve its perfect balance.

In life, taking time allows us the opportunity to develop our skills and nurture our relationships. Most meaningful accomplishments require dedication and persistence.

I remember that back in college I signed up for voice lessons. My teacher asked about my goals, and I shared that I wanted to be able to sing while playing the piano. My ultimate dream, though, was to sing like Celine Dion. She then asked me, "How much time are you prepared to dedicate to training your voice?" She asked that question because talent like that is not something that appears overnight. It is earned through years of commitment, discipline, and practice. We often want the result tomorrow, or even the applause that comes with achievement, without understanding the countless hours of work that make that applause possible.

I can tell you that I am grateful that talents take time. If excellence came effortlessly, everyone would be doing it, and there would be far less admiration for the gift. The time invested is what gives the achievement its meaning.

Both life and the vineyard, nothing is rushed, and yet, in time, everything becomes.
