Weather tolerance is personal, but dog owners know any forecast can be endured in short bursts. During potty training, I taught my dog to go on command—a skill that’s proven invaluable when it’s 0 degrees outside with a windchill of -50.

That first summer, I fell in love with Montrose Dog Beach and the simple joy of having a massive lake just steps from home. Since then, I’ve made a point to spend even more time outside. Part of that is thanks to my high-energy dog who demands miles of walking every day. The other part is me—I’m a natural multitasker. I’ll take work calls while walking or rage-walk to process a frustrating day (always with the dog in tow).
