At least one of my kids likes to ski. One surfs and the other wakeboards. I like driving my Ski Nautique fast and blaring good country music out of the amazing speakers. I like teaching people to ski and seeing their faces light up when they too realize how fun it is!
This past 4th of July we created a new sport on the lake. A scavenger hunt for the adult children, the next generation, that have all grown up here. We created clues around stories they’ve heard their entire lives like the Dewey Lake Monster, The Dirty Dancing House on the hill, Love is in the tree, and John and Laurie’s first Kiss. We had five boats with 10 randomly chosen teams. And one captain. The teams that did the best had members that truly listened to their parents’ stories of the legacies of the lake. A good captain helped. One captain, that will remain nameless, gave up and took her entire crew to the island to drink. That was funny, but others took it very seriously and the competition was fierce. There were prizes, water guns, and strategy. New friendships were formed. Mission accomplished!
