DC: Your daily routine consists of journaling. When did you start that practice and how has writing improved your life and relationships?
KH: I started
during training camp
with the Houston Texans.
I was mentally going
through it, and I just
wanted a safe space to
talk and express myself
because telling anyone
seemed impossible.
It has improved my life
and relationships
dramatically. I believe
everyone needs to have
that space to express themselves without
judgement or worry.
My journal is that. And
it’s the place where I
workout my feelings, I
workout my thoughts,
and come to conclusions. Sometimes you don’t
know what’s true and
what’s not, you don’t
know if you’re flying
towards the sky, or
towards the ground.
Journaling keeps me
honest. That honest
paper trail of on that day,
I felt like X. It’s funny,
when I sometimes feel
bad, and that things have
never been good, I turn
back 2 pages (2 days ago)
and its “Oh my gosh Lord
all is well! Thank you!
Thank you! Thank you!”
LOL. Those moments
bring me back down and
make me realize I could
just be experiencing a
mood drop and I need to
just monitor it, not panic
or spiral.
DC: You train a lot of Chicago celebrities. Explain how their fitness goals compare with your regular clients.
KH: We talked about this at today’s session. All of our
success starts with us
(individually).
We wake up early, we beat the body, we tell it what we are going to do. That is us setting the tone for the rest of the day. Many creatives and successful corporate folk all experience
to do, you will not tell me.
Everyone needs to be strong; everyone needs to be conditioned, everyone needs mobility, everyone needs lean muscle for longevity in life. But what we need the most is discipline and self-control, that’s the muscle we train the most.
