Summer is hot for kid movies, insipid comedies, and super-hero blockbusters, but what about the rest of us who want intelligent, meaningful, yet entertaining cinema during the toasty days of June, July and August? You might think that request is an impossibility based on films released in June such as Captain America: Civil War, "X-Men Apocalypse," and "Independence Day: Resurgence.” Some of you may have found "Welcome to happiness," "Love and Friendship," and “NUTS!” in June. But what now?

Thanks to film studios willing to take a chance on independent movies, you’re in luck. Having traveled across the continent, attending film festivals, I have the perfect list of summer films to keep you going out on Saturday night for dinner and a movie.
