Despite these statistics and trends, voter turnout continues to be very low among the young, minorities and low-income individuals. As campaigns become more and more expensive and begin earlier and earlier, how will potential voters respond? Who will the parties target? And more importantly, what are the issues that will drive the voter blocks?
Whatever the answers to these questions turn out to be, it is certain that our two-party system will never be the same. As America diversifies, urbanizes and ages, perhaps freedom of thought will lead to freedom from party label.
