EEEEEK!!!! What happened to my body??? Where did this soft, pudgy belly come from? Why am I spending more time putting makeup under my eyes than over? Why is it absolute hell getting out of bed every day? Looks like I got a bad case of the post holiday winter blues. The drawback of a happy holiday season is the utterly devastating aftermath of depleted health. It’s system overload after a busy and festive holiday season of too many bubbles & carbs and not enough rest. While toasting at all the glamorous parties is fun, alcohol dehydrates, leaving you feeling dry, puffy and lethargic, and carb overload leaves you bloated, gaseous and depressed. So here I find myself yet again … beginning of the year goal setting; time to get back to the real world and a healthier me. I know with a little work and proper planning I will be back to feeling rested and looking less plump. Here’s what works for getting my body back to feeling and looking good:

Drink more. It’s just as important to hydrate during the dry months of winter, especially when you’re trying to offset dehydrating alcohol or even increased air travel over the holidays. Drinking water helps you maintain the balance of bodily fluids (remember our bodies are 80% water?), helps control calories by making you feel full, helps energize muscles to fight fatigue, keeps skin looking smoother and less wrinkly, and helps your kidneys remove nasty toxins, not to mention keeping you regular. Commit to drinking more water. Try drinking one gallon of water every day for 30 days and see the dramatic changes in your appearance and well-being.

Top Apps to get you drinking water - Daily Water, Hydro Coach & Aqualert are apps that track your water intake and give you reminders so you don’t forget. You enter information like your weight and how much you want to drink and set the alarm for hourly or just a few times a day. I love when I’m sitting somewhere quiet and suddenly it sounds either like someone is pouring out a huge pitcher of water or even funnier like someone is flushing a toilet. Whatever works, right?
