February: A Month for Small Businesses and Self-Discovery

Let’s talk about February, a month that often gets a bad rap. It’s short, the weather tends to be miserable, and the post-holiday glow has long faded. But rather than letting the gloom get to me, I’ve decided to use February as an opportunity to challenge myself.

This month, I’ll be exploring the small-business gems in my neighborhood through solo adventures and outings with friends. As a small business owner myself, I’m passionate about supporting other entrepreneurs, so why not combine that with having fun? Bonus points: these adventures can also serve as informal networking opportunities to grow my accounting and finance side hustle.

While networking and building my business are important, this challenge is about more than that. I want to nurture all the different sides of me because, like everyone else, I’m complex and multifaceted. February’s goal is simple yet meaningful: plan one fun activity each week, ideally while supporting a small business.

Week 1: Sip and Spray Paint

For my first adventure, I’m taking a friend to a sip and spray paint session. I’ve walked past a studio offering this activity countless times, and the bright colors and people bouncing around having fun has always caught my eye. As a number’s person, I’m not naturally inclined toward artistic endeavors, but the idea of creating something with spray paint is exciting. Who knows? I might even discover a hidden creative side.*

Week 2: Cooking Class with Friends

The second week’s plan is a group cooking class. My friends and I already love gathering around food, but this time, we’ll make the food together. It’s the perfect blend of fun, learning, and bonding. Plus, it supports a small business offering culinary workshops. And there is usually a theme. I love cooking, competing and themes!**
