I stayed outside of the village, at the foothills of the Alpilles at a discreet hidden, historical mansion called Chateau des Alpilles. This 19th century manor house estate has been lovingly restored by a mother/daughter team and today they have the third-generation daughters, Maya and Mathilde in training on-site.

The gated entrance to Chateau des Alpilles is impressive with a long lane lined with hundred-year-old plane trees. At the far end, voila, there is Chateau des Alpilles in all its twentieth century splendor. In former years, dignitaries and literati liked to gather here. It fell into disarray until the Bon family acquired it in 1979. Francoise Bon and daughter, Catherine turned it back into the 5-star hotel it is today with period décor and contemporary touches. The property encompasses seven hectares of parkland filled with a diverse assortment of regional and exotic plants.
