Film awards season intrigues me. I get to glimpse into behind the scenes decisions that direct the future of entertainment from the comfort of my own couch in the country. I am in the process of building my own wildlife refuge and sustainable homestead, but I still have a lot to learn. So when I have time to sit and watch, I tend to enjoy shows related to wilderness survival and rural living. I realize that my tastes must not be that unique when my favorites inspire multiple content knock-offs. The television schedule is now full of series filmed in Alaska and many versions of Tiny House, Big Living type shows spawned by the downsizing movement. Think about how the reality show Building Wild on National Geographic Channel offers both human interest and instructional footage of off grid cabin projects. It actually draws you into viewing and imagining yourself choosing that lifestyle.
