Make self care a priority.

You: Make a commitment to yourself for what you need and allow your partner to do the same. It is easy to slip into blaming others for upsetting us, but when you accept responsibility for your mood and your needs, the blame is no longer needed. If you are clear about what you need for yourself and make a commitment to prioritize these things, you are on the right track. Let’s say for example, that you really enjoy yoga and know that you feel great after you take a yoga class. Make it a priority. Treat it as just as important as the other things you

have to do each day during this busy time of year.

Your relationship: Just as you expect your partner to honor your needs, be mindful to honor your partner’s needs! He or she should not have to regularly abandon something that helps them to feel balanced and healthy in order to accommodate you. Things are busier this time of year, but you should both have a practice of self care and be mindful of respecting what this involves for each of you. This might look like taking turns going for a run, while the other watches the kids. Most importantly, allow space for your partner to take the time he or she needs for himself and take time for what you need for you.
