The wall of sound blows out my ears as explosively as the drop of an EDM track. Gradually overtaking the roar that left my heart racing, are voices screaming, noisemakers ratcheting, and horns blaring. Several hundred thousand firecrackers taper down to occasional snaps like nearly finished popcorn. Amidst cheers and well wishes, I lock lips with my husband for our traditional midnight kiss. We raise our champagne glasses to toast the new year with family and friends. Ashes drifting down and rainbows of colorful fireworks transform the moment into a rave-like scene as we jump excitedly in the cold winter weather.
Following the music back indoors, we begin the wild rumpus beneath metallic streamers glistening with holiday lights. Our play list encompasses favorite party music to please all ages. With furniture against the walls, the great room is filled with bobbing party hats and neon necklaces. Some of us show our best moves and others, like myself, cut loose and dance our drinks off.
