Why showing up means more than you think

sound of a
ding, your
phone notification goes off with a text – “Following up... did you get my invite?”
This text is a sign of our times. We receive an invitation and then we hold back on our reply. Afterall, it is hard to plan that far in advance, so we tell ourselves.
Being in the business of event planning, I am finding this is quickly becoming the new social norm. A norm that is filled with a failure to commit and an option to bail in the 11th hour.
I will tell my clients “Don’t take it personally, this happens all the time” but I don’t want to accept this as the “new” social etiquette of our day.
While RSVPing may be trending to a thing of the past, let me share with you what it still holds.
