n the current political climate where racism, hatred, fear mongering, and censorship abound, it’s critical to keep our eyes and ears open to the experiences of others and recognize that we share more values in common than what sets us apart: safety for our children, respect for our neighbors, and the ability to carry on with our lives without the fear of being senselessly attacked. The need to hear, empathize with, and learn from others’ stories remains as important as ever, and books and other forms of media are important vehicles to achieve this goal. The beauty of such media is that you can choose what you want to read or listen to, alternating between educating yourself on a little-known topic, becoming more aware of pressing issues, or simply getting lost in a great story.
