Desperately Seeking a Hollywood Hero

How Hollywood Ruined My Dating Life

I grew up glued to the television falling in love with the fantasy heroes the likes of The 7 Voyages of Sinbad and any swashbuckler black and white with Errol Flynn. Men that could handle a sword and made women swoon, were charming and romantic, with a healthy dose of integrity. Sounds normal enough, but earth to MGM - a lifetime of your leading males has ruined my life. Not only have I come to idolize an unrealistic portrayal of a human male, I ridiculously keep expecting to be swept off my feet by the likes of guys named Bourne or Bond or Tristan or Braveheart. I’m become convinced that to get a hero to come to my rescue, I have to need to be rescued. I have to suffer, die or be victimized. Hollywood seems to tell me that I have little chance of finding a hero while being a strong and independent woman.
