First and foremost, Safari West a wildlife preserve. On our hikes we learned that education is the key to the preservation of many endangered animals. That is at the heart of what they do. In the evenings we dined on exquisite food indoors at the Elephant room or we sat outdoors by the fire pit under the brilliant stars. The kind of stars you can only see when you get way-way out of the city.
Here’s the best part. I’m in the middle of a wildlife preserve sleeping in a huge canvas sided tent; so as I snuggled into bed and closed my eyes, all I could hear were the wonderful sounds of wildlife. At first, it startled me. “What was that?” “Is it a Cape Buffalo crunching on grass?” “Or maybe a Gazelle scampering by my window?” It’s like, wow, I really AM in Africa. After a while, I got used to the sounds and actually felt very connected to my animal friends. Honestly, it was the best night sleep I’ve ever had and worth every cent. I came back from my glamping trip with fantastic pictures, great memories, an education on conservation….and no bug bites! ~Susan
