One way that I make it easy to accept last minute invitations to go to social or a business events is to wear classic clothing that can transition from day to evening. Another great trick (at least for a woman!) is to keep a pair of high heels, dressy earrings and some red lipstick at work so you have the option to dress up. This trick has saved me on numerous occasions. I always have a great time and meet so many wonderful people because I am prepared and able to say “yes” to last minute invitations.
I like to make the most of going out by planning ahead and using a calendar to help me keep track of events, dates and times. Taking the time to write down my schedule helps me enjoy the present moment without worrying about the future.
I love building relationships with people who have similar interests. If my schedule is free and I am invited somewhere fun, I always go! If there is an activity that I want to try, I invite someone to be my guest. Enjoying life with adventurous people will help build strong relationships and create fond memories together.
It’s a big and exciting world that we live in, but it can feel overwhelming with so much happening. With my schedule on Broadway, I have to let my body recover from performing eight times a week, but I still try to keep some balance in my life by going to events that matter to me, while still making sure I rest my body so that I stay healthy and happy. That is why I found being prepared to get “outside the door” has allowed me to find more balance in my life.
I don’t think there should be limits or parameters for the definition of the word outdoors. Depending on your stage in life or your priorities at the time, you can define what outdoors means to you - it might mean going to a BBQ, seeing a live show, going out to dinner, spending time with friends, running a marathon, going to a party, climbing a mountain . . . the list goes on and on and on. For me, however, the first step is to make sure that I at the very least “get out the door”...and then I just let the magic unfold.
