Respect. In any partnership you need to give your significant other the respect they deserve. You need to have an equal partnership and be respectful of someone’s time and energy. You should get what you give and vice versa. If someone is demanding, argumentative and not willing to budge then it’s time to rethink this new relationship. Respect yourself enough to be with someone that lifts you up, is your best friend and gives as much respect as you deserve. We all need and deserve that and don’t settle for anything less.

Trust. No one wants to go into a new relationship, with someone questioning their every move. Think about a past relationship where you had to lie about where you were going or with whom. You shouldn’t need to keep anything from your new partner because you’re afraid they will get upset with you or think you are doing something wrong. Relationships should be built on trust and understanding that you are with them because you want to be. If the trust is not there it will be a very bumpy road leading to disaster. I suggest individual counseling for the person with the trust issues to work out the past trauma and be able to feel solid and comfortable in the new relationship.

Be understanding that you will not always agree on everything. Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions. Are you able to communicate respectfully and not be stubborn in your own viewpoints and realize that maybe their belief is also valid? Sometimes we get stuck in our own way. Everyone has the right to their own opinion and just because it’s different than our own doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Even our relationships with our best friends are not always without disagreements and resolutions. We listen, understand, meet in the middle and come to a compromise in all relationships.

Wishing everyone health, happiness, and love in their lives.
