Since May I have had the honour of being the Mayor of our wonderful City, and it truly is an honour.
So far during my year I have met many talented people some creating things here that are a shining
beacon to the rest of the country and in some cases the rest of the world, I have also been humbled by
the vast number of citizens serving their communities and their fellow man/woman for nothing more
than the satisfaction of contributing something positive to the lives of others, a shining example to us
all in our hectic lives where we sometimes don't notice others around us as much as we should because
of the demands of our own priorities.
Our wonderful City has been through a major transformation this last few months and we are still
in a transition period with both positive and negative effects being felt across all businesses. As with
any change there is always the need to adapt to the ripple effects that change brings. Through my
involvement with various groups around the City I do feel confident about the future of Hereford, from
your City Councillors, the Business Improvement District bid, the New University of Hereford bid, the
drive to be recognised as City of Culture in 2021 plus many other factors the future is bright, with so
many people working toward a positive outcome we will succeed.
We live in a City to be proud of with so many positive and talented people but we need to remember
that and broadcast the message to the rest of the world. As a partner in a family business established
in the 1950's in the City I would like to encourage you all to support your local independent retailers
as we depend upon Christmas trade to carry us through the lean trading period up to Easter, Hereford
still has a good number of independents but we need your support more than ever in these difficult
trading times and this is the time of year to explore and walk down streets you may not have been
down for some time, you may be surprised at what you find for those difficult to buy for friends and
relatives.
This Christmas remember why you love the people around you and most importantly tell them!
