POLICE CHOIR CELEBRATES 60 YEARS OF SONG
To mark its Diamond Jubilee in 2017,
Hereford Police Male Choir staged a
special concert in Hereford Cathedral
were it all started 60 years ago when a few
bobbies formed a choir to sing at a service
to celebrate the centenary of the old
Herefordshire Constabulary.
Now, open to men from all walks of life and
over 60 strong the choir has performed in some
of the top venues in the land, including the Royal
Albert Hall and on BBC TV. Joining them were
Shrewsbury Police Male Choir and Brecon Male
Choir. The guest soloists included Stephen John
Davis, star of West End shows, including
Phantom of the Opera and Emily Rooke, winner
of the Police Choir’s annual £1,000 Young
Musicians Bursary. The concert on October 28
was a virtual sell-out with over 600 attending. The
choir is now preparing for a return in 2018 to the
Royal Albert Hall to sing in the London Welsh
Festival of male voice choirs. The choir will be
singing at the Army Benevolent Christmas
charity concert in Hereford Cathedral on Tuesday,
December 19.
Guests included Lady Darnley, the Lord
Lieutenant , Lady Lisvane, the High Sheriff , the
Mayor Cllr Sharon Michael and Clive Richards,
the choir Patron and his wife Sylvia.

mond Jubilee with a new CD – ’60 Years On The
Beat.’ On sale at £8 from Off The Wall gift shop
