II Simposio em Microbiologia Agrícola
From the 19th to 21st of September 2017, the II Symposium in Agricultural Microbiology was organized by the Graduate Program in Agricultural Microbiology - PPGMA, Federal University of Lavras. The symposium was created in 2016 by Professor Dr. Rosane Freitas Schwan, Coordinator of the fermentation research group (NEFER). During the symposium, the topics covered were on Potentialities of agricultural microbiology in society.
On the 19th, a theory/ practical workshop on lactic preserves was held and ministered by Fernando Goldenstein Carvalhaes and Leonardo from Companhia dos Fermentados. On the 20th and 21st presentations were given by researches from UFLA and other universities, together with presentations of the best works, discussion sessions, and poster presentations.
On the 20th, the theme of the discussion session was "Different Applications of Agriculture Microbiology", with the following presentations: "Kombucha a balm of the East" - Fernando Goldenstein Carvalhaes - Companhia dos Fermentados, ‘’Control of plant diseases with the use of yeasts "- Prof. Dr. Kátia Regina Freitas Schwan-Estrada - UEM, "Use of biofilters in waste water depollution" - Prof. Dr. Cristina Ferreira Silva e Batista - UFLA, and "Use of probiotics in animal feeding and performance" - Alan de Santana Pereira - LNF.
On the 21st, the theme of the discussion session was "Advances and Challenges in the Dairy Sector" and the presentations given were: "Problems Caused by Microorganisms in the Dairy Chain" - Prof. Dr. Roberta Hilsdorf Piccoli - UFLA, "Use of Autochthonous Bacteria in Dairy Production" - Prof. Dr. Francesca Silva Dias Nobre - UNIVASF, and "Milk Technology and Microbiology" - Prof. Dr. Antônio Fernandes de Carvalho - UFV.
On the last day, the event closed with awards from the best works presented orally and best posters. Dr. Karla Silva Teixeira Souza and PhD. student Filipe Pereira Matteoli received a prize for best oral presentations and PhD. student Dayana Pereira de Andrade and Luana Sousa Costa won the prize for the best posters.
The symposium provided opportunities for new knowledge, integrations with other researchers and exposure of the work done.
