What the Future Holds
– Trade, Investment
Panama-China Trade Agreement
– How it Would Benefit Panama
Without a doubt, Panama has experi-
enced terrific growth over the last
decade, a feat that no other city in the
region can match. Unflinchingly urban,
eternal traffic jams, rails of chaos, chic
clubs and casinos aplenty and one
construction site after another literally
define the city. But that’s what you expe-
rience upon landing in the capital and
financial hub of Panama.
The rest of the world sees Panama City as
a center of international banking,
defined by a sultry skyline of shimmering
glass reminiscent of Miami. It has man-
aged to attract foreign bankers from all
corners of the world and indeed allowed
eager hoteliers to establish restaurants
offering quality foods to feed the insatia-
ble locals and vacationers.
It is a dynamic metropolis that fortunate-
ly is at the crossroads of two oceans and
two continents. And it seems that is what
is drawing foreign investors to this
steamy, tropical town. At every corner
are upscale cafes, wine bars, cranes
scaling the rooftops of a panoramic
skyline and virtually everything that’s
growing.
The mad rush that this city is growing is
baffling and the residents calling it
“Dubai of the Americas” could be an
understatement. Over 30 skyscrapers,
most of whom are almost complete,
sudden and rapid influxes of foreigners
and changing culture means it isn’t
another Dubai, but rather Panama City in
its own right!
Just the other day, Panama and the
People’s Republic of China signed a Mari-
time Transport Agreement that would
greatly benefit the locals. The pact is a
win-win for both countries, although
Panama will benefit in multiple facets,
including getting lower port costs and
getting training from China. Chinese
seamen aboard Panamanian ships will
offer maritime training to spur interna-
tional expansions, according to the Pana-
ma’s president Juan Carlos Varela.
The trade agreement signifies another
feat that highlights why Panama is the
next frontier for investors. Panama will
henceforth register Chinese-owned
vessels and shipping companies, offer
naval mortgage and property titles
among other benefits.
Just to conclude, here’s the fact that you
ought to understand why Panama is a
unique country worth visiting. Panama
Canal, the world’s top human-made
attraction, took ten years and over
250,000 people to construct. It has
featured in countless documentaries and
movies and celebrated a centenary in
2014. Visit Panama City, and you will be
lucky to cruise through this
magical attraction!
