Feeling the Sunshine, Spring 2020
An EHS Student Special Feature Publication
“Why did you have to blink so quickly? Why didn’t you stay in those memories longer?” I
ask myself.
When I get home, I am still freezing cold. I sprint inside and I instantly warm up. I hear
people talking and I walk to the living room, where all the voices are coming from. What I see
shocks me. Standing before me are my best friends, Jacob, Chelsea, Megan, Isabela, and Aiden.
My mouth drops and my eyes fill with tears. I run over to them and give them a group hug,
crying.
“I missed you guys,” I say.
“We missed you too,” Chelsea says.
We hug for a few more seconds and I let go, slightly confused.
“How?” I ask.
“Your parents reached out to us, saying you were visiting home and said we were
welcome to come as well,” Megan says.
“We thought it would be a good surprise,” Isabela says.
“But all of you don’t live here anymore,” I say.
“So? We still wanted to see you, to see each other so we all decided to come,” Jacob
says.
“It’s nice outside, should we go outside?” Aiden asks.
“Yeah, let’s go!” Chelsea says.
We make our way outside and sit at the table on the deck. I feel the sunshine on me, and I
close my eyes. When I open them, I see all of us as we were in high school, I smile, missing
those times. I blink again and we are adults. We catch up, but most of the time, I am just smiling,
happy to see them.
Who knew feeling the sunshine would lead to this?
