Feeling the Sunshine, Spring 2020 An EHS Student Special Feature Publication Blossom by Kerry Donohue Inside my petals I am trapped And with cool winds I am wrapped I hide within myself As I can’t see the colors The beauty has to outweigh the long months of blindness The absence of the sun The absence of the green grass The absence of the shimmering stars The loss of the children And their sparkling eyes when they spot a glimpse of me The silence is so loud When you remember how the sun sings That’s the medicine to help me grow… The remembrance of the storytelling sky A memory of the waterflowing river The daylight that warms my soul And the pollinating of the bees What is that I feel The warming sensation of a hug Or is it the yearning feeling of the sun I know it like my roots in the ground What is it I see A sliver of light The tones of the bright blue sky The glistening of the morning dew The smiles and joy painted on faces of the individuals That I picture as royalty What is that I hear The chirping of the free birds flying overhead The laughter of playing children The slight breeze whistling next to me What is that I smell The crisp air of a spring day The rain from the day before The sweet florals of my fellow friends and I What do I taste you may ask I taste the freedom The relief of blossoming
