WAHS Students Exceed Fundraising Goal at Make-A-Wish Benefit Concert
Williamsport Area High School students surpassed their fundraising goal, following a student-led Make- A-Wish Benefit Concert held in December in the WAHS auditorium.
The family-friendly concert, organized by four student directors and featuring nearly 40 student volunteer performers, raised $ 15,370 to benefit Make-A-Wish. The total exceeded the students’ $ 15,000 fundraising goal, with donations continuing to be accepted through the beginning of the new year.
Two of the student directors, Maddie Fausnaught and Maddie Heller, are former Make-A-Wish recipients who helped lead the effort as a way to give back and support local children facing critical illnesses.
The concert highlighted student leadership and collaboration, while showcasing a variety of musical performances choreographed by WAHS senior Sophia Lepley. The successful event reflected months of student planning, rehearsals, and community outreach.
Proceeds from the concert will support granting life-changing wishes to local children facing illness through Make-A-Wish. Donations in support of the student-led fundraiser remain available online through the beginning of the new year by clicking here.
WAHS Students Hear Message of Resilience from Former NBA Player Chris Herren
Williamsport Area High School students heard from Chris Herren, a former professional basketball player and recovery advocate, during a school assembly focused on healthy choices, resilience, and seeking help when needed.
Prior to the presentation, Herren was gracious enough to sit down with the WAHS TV Productions crew for an interview led by junior Emily Fullup. Fullup, who won the broadcast writing competition at Bloomsburg in the fall, will advance to the state finals in March.
During the assembly, Herren shared his personal story, and encouraged students to think critically about decision-making, peer pressure, and the importance of supporting one another. The presentation reinforced the district’ s commitment to student wellness and ongoing prevention education.
The district thanks Journey Bank for its generosity and support in making the presentation possible for the WAHS school community.
