enhance cognitive reserve and the brain’ s ability to function despite aging, injury or disease.
In one study, out of 17 cognitive and physical activities, only playing board games, reading, dancing and playing musical instruments were associated with a lower risk of dementia among adults older than 75. In another study of people ages
65 and older, board game players had a 15 % lower dementia risk than non-players, even after adjusting for confounders such as age, gender and education. More recently, a 2025 randomized controlled trial showed that a group of nursing home residents who engaged in twice-weekly board game sessions facilitated by trained professionals showed improvements in cognitive function. Much of the research suggests that face-to-face play is associated with a greater brain boost compared with virtual play.

We Are Sweet on You and the community we’ re proud to call home
While we may be the Charbonneau Specialists, it’ s the people who make Charbonneau truly special. From friendly faces to lasting connections, this community is the reason we love what we do. Here’ s to another year of supporting the neighborhood we cherish and continuing to help Charbonneau thrive in 2026.
Join legendary Oregon sportswriter Kerry Eggers, three-time San Francisco 49er Super Bowl champion Mike Walter and former Mariners scorekeeper Dave Mauk for firsthand stories about the athletes and figures you’ ve watched, cheered and jeered. Kerry and Mike will trade stories and Mike will serve as the moderator. An audience Q & A will be part of the program. The event will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday, March 5 in the Clubhouse Dining Room.
Kerry has insider peeks at luminaries we know by a single name like Ali, Tiger, Wilt, Michael, Shaq, Clyde, Dame, Flo-Jo, Fos, Kobe and more. He has insights into the announcers, coaches, owners, dads and others who have impacted the games we watch and maybe played. His 12 books and over 15,000 articles cover many of
DIRECTORY CHANGES
Spring is almost here, and it is time for the Charbonneau Country Club office staff to begin updating the Charbonneau Resident Directory. This booklet is not just a resident directory. It also contains helpful information about Charbonneau businesses, homeowner associations, architectural control policies, etc.
Please ensure the information in the blue colored 2025 directory is current for those already listed. The directory information includes resident phone numbers and emails. This information may have changed. For instance, if you have canceled your landline
Oregon’ s best known sports figures and teams.
Mike earned his three Super Bowl rings during his 10-year career with the 49ers, when Joe Montana won two of his three Super Bowl MVPs and Jerry Rice won his. It’ s easy to see the toughness and tenacity Mike played with when looking at photos from his NFL days.
Dave has been around high-performing sports figures much of his life, as a hitting partner with professional tennis players and a paddler on the U. S. kayaking team and he’ s been inside locker rooms with his athlete clients and through scorekeeper duties with the Mariners.
Kerry will be available to autograph his books, too. All participants are Charbonneau residents, which makes this event all the more interesting.
and are now exclusively using your cell phone, please contact us so we can remove the landline from the directory. The phone company will reassign those canceled phone numbers to new customers, and those new customers will receive your phone calls. This can be very frustrating for all concerned. The deadline for making changes is May 15, which is the date of the CCC annual meeting.
If you have recently moved to Charbonneau, please contact Claudia Vidal at 503-694- 2300 or Office @ CharbonneauCountryClub. com and let her know how you would like to be listed in the directory. The post office will deliver the directory exclusively to Charbonneau addresses sometime in June. Thank you!
