Two overarching themes guided the ITS journey in 2024: substantial progress in the development of Kazakhstan’s financial market landscape and its increased integration into the global economy.
We capped off 2024 by achieving what typically takes other trading platforms years by establishing proprietary trading and settlement infrastructure, launching Central Asia’s first ETF, and expanding its network of connected brokers. These achievements boosted trading volume and reinforced ITS’s position as a key player in the region’s financial market.
Working together with our traders and investors, along with a growing range of financial instruments, ITS’s monthly trading volume grew by 30% by H2 of 2024, while the number of available trading stocks increased by more than 50%.
In other milestones, ITS received a positive assessment from the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), underscoring our compliance with international transparency and regulatory standards. We also became a member of the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges (FEAS) and the Association of Islamic Finance and Business (AIFB), further expanding our institutional partnerships. A major advancement this year was the transition to ITS’s proprietary trading and clearing infrastructure within the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), which strengthened the platform’s market position.
Another key development was the launch of the ITS World ETF linked to ITS’s benchmark stock index. This initiative paved the way for the introduction of the ITS Shariah ETF in early 2025, reflecting ITS’s commitment to offering diversified investment instruments that are tailored to regional and international investors.
On the visibility front, ITS took an active role in shaping industry dialogue through the ITS IDEAS 2024 conference held as part of Astana Finance Days. Bringing together leading market experts, including renowned investor Jim Rogers, the inaugural event served as an ideal stage for discussions on investment opportunities and emerging financial trends.
With a strong foundation established in 2024, ITS is poised to drive further innovation and expansion in the years ahead. Our primary emphasis will be on continued growth, market integration, and a commitment to transparency in order to shape the financial landscape of Kazakhstan and the wider region.
