Story and Photos by Kevin Madigan
On the evening of Tuesday, August 16th, the Westbury Fire Department was
dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2721 Hyacinth Street off of Hyacinth
Court. As fire department units began responding they were advised that
Nassau County Police were at that location reporting a working fire. While
still blocks away, Chief John Bartunek [9601] reported smoke showing from
a distance and upon arriving on scene transmitted the working fire signal.
Hicksville Fire Department was designated the FAST and responded with
Ladder 931, but upon arrival, it was used as a working truck company. Jericho Fire Department’s Ladder 941, originally assigned for standby, was redirected to the scene and also used as a working truck company. East Meadow Fire Department became the new FAST and also sent one ambulance to
the scene. Carle Place Fire Department’s Engine 917 was also directed to
the scene. At least two lines were put into operation to fight the fire based
in the rear of the home. No injuries were reported and the scene was placed
under control within 45 minutes.
