Annual Sixth Battalion Drill

The Nassau County Sixth Battalion Old Fashioned Tournament was held
on Saturday, August 27th, at the Four Towns Firemen’s Training Center in
Merrick. The drill was hosted by the North Merrick Fire Department who
is celebrating their 90th Anniversary this year. From the battalion were
teams consisting of firefighters from Bellmore, East Meadow, Levittown,
Merrick/Freeport, North Bellmore, North Merrick, Seaford and Wantagh.
The top three overall teams were the Bellmore Ball Breakers, North Bellmore Rinky Dinks, and North Merrick Stump Jumpers. The Merrick/Freeport and Levittown teams placed fourth and fifth respectively.

Celebrating
90 Years

As part of their 90th Anniversary celebration the North Merrick Fire Department hosted the
Annual Sixth Battalion Parade on the evening of Saturday, August 27th. The parade began
on Camp Avenue at Chapin Avenue and went east until it reached Merrick Avenue. From
there the parade continued southbound to the Merrick train station. Aside from the departments of the sixth battalion, the Valley Stream and West Hempstead Fire Departments were
also invited and participated in the parade.

Charity

On Saturday, September 10th, the Bayville Fire
Company hosted their Annual Charity Drill at the
Center Island Beach track. Teams from as far as away
as Medford came to compete in this year’s drill to
raise money for various organizations including the
Heather Pendergast Fund, St. Gertrude’s Church,
the Village Church, and also for two scholarships
for Locust Valley High School graduates in 2017. At
the end of the day, the Baldwin Tomcats finished the
tournament in 1st Place with 34 total points.
